Speaker Professor Peter Donald, Paediatrics and Child Health & Desmond Tutu TB Centre, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Stellenbosch University

Peter Roderick Donald is emeritus professor in the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Stellenbosch University, South Africa. He has a wide range of interests in tuberculosis, including childhood tuberculosis and in particular tuberculous meningitis and the epidemiology and natural history of tuberculosis. He has been active in the assessment of antituberculosis agents in children and adults for thirty-five years. He retired from a full-time work in 2004, but remains active in variety of research activities mainly focused on childhood tuberculosis and the actions and assessment of drugs. When not working, he enjoys the unique flora of the Western Cape Province of South Africa, hiking and cross country running and likes to pretend he can play recorder. He obtained an A2 rating from the National Research Foundation of South Africa in 2008 which was re-awarded in 2012 and in 2010 received the “Union Medal” of the IUATLD for his contribution to promoting child lung health.
